WELCOME TO CURCUBEU
The day is yours. The evening is for everyone.
Some trips revolve around a full day outdoors. Others are about gathering people around the same table. At Pensiunea Curcubeu, you can do a little of both.
This is a family-run guesthouse business in the Kalinderu area, with two separate buildings on Strada Mihai Viteazu. Curcubeu 1 has a choice of double, triple and quadruple rooms, plus larger spaces for cooking and spending time together. Curcubeu 2 has six double rooms and its own shared kitchen and dining area.
The difference matters: a couple looking for a quiet base may have different needs from a family of four or a group arriving with several cars. This guide shows what each building offers so you can ask the owners the right questions.
The details below are based on information supplied by the property. The owners confirm current availability, prices and services directly.

Bușteni lies beneath the Bucegi Mountains, with Kalinderu on its western side.
TWO BUILDINGS · DIFFERENT EXPERIENCES
Which Curcubeu is right for you?
Both buildings are on the same street, yet the room layouts and communal facilities differ. Choose by your group size, not by the name alone.

FAMILIES & GROUPS
Curcubeu 1
With six rooms for up to nineteen guests, Curcubeu 1 has the wider range of sleeping arrangements. The larger dining space, shared kitchen, billiards and table tennis make it a practical option when the group wants to spend time together after a day outdoors.
The sauna and heated outdoor hot tub belong to Curcubeu 1. These are optional paid services, available by advance arrangement rather than included with every room.

COUPLES & SMALLER PARTIES
Curcubeu 2
Six double rooms, each with a private bathroom, make Curcubeu 2 an easy option to consider for couples and smaller parties. Four rooms have balconies; ask which room is available if you would like one.
This building has its own communal kitchen and dining room, so guests can prepare meals rather than relying on a hotel restaurant. The shared facilities are not identical to Curcubeu 1.
Before confirming your room: ask which building you will stay in, the exact room and sleeping arrangement, and whether the facilities you want are available for your booking. The 31-person figure is the combined property capacity, not the capacity of a single unit.
YOUR ROOM

THE TIME BETWEEN ADVENTURES
Make room for the slower moments.
A long dinner, a game together or a hot tub under the mountain sky. Shared spaces give the two guesthouses much of their character, but amenities are specific to each building.

Wellness is not included in standard room rates: the sauna and heated outdoor tub at Curcubeu 1 are paid extras. The owners request at least 24 hours’ notice. Confirm the available time slot and price directly.

BEFORE YOU ARRIVE
Little details, better stays.
Kalinderu is close by according to the property, but the walk depends on which building and entrance you use. Winter weather can make even short journeys slower, particularly with luggage or young children.
If you are travelling without a car, ask about the route from Bușteni station. If you are driving, check parking availability for your dates, especially when arriving as a group.
You can also use the guesthouses as a base to visit Cantacuzino Castle, explore Bușteni and travel along the Prahova Valley.
Check-in from 14:00; check-out by 11:00, according to the owner.
Eight spaces listed at Curcubeu 1 and two at Curcubeu 2. Confirm availability for your vehicles.
There is no advertised prepared breakfast service. Both buildings have shared kitchens.
Room layouts differ, and a cot is available on request subject to availability.
Cash, card, bank transfer and Romanian holiday vouchers are mentioned. Confirm terms.
No pets. Smoking only outdoors. Reservation holder must be an adult.

Room layouts and sleeping arrangements
In Curcubeu 1, the owner-provided room list identifies two double rooms, one triple room and three quadruple rooms. The double rooms have a double bed and private bathroom. The triple arrangement adds an extendable armchair to a double bed, while the quadruple rooms have a double bed and a sofa bed intended for two people. Check the exact configuration before deciding that it suits your family.
Curcubeu 2 has six double rooms, each intended for two guests, with private bathrooms. Four offer a balcony, so a balcony view should not be assumed for every reservation. The property describes room facilities such as Wi-Fi, television, refrigerator or minibar and adjustable heating. Some amenities vary between buildings; for example, the information lists a hairdryer specifically for Curcubeu 2.
If you are travelling with an infant, the owners list a single cot available across both buildings on request. That makes early confirmation important. Do not assume a cot is automatically included in a room or available after another family has reserved it. Room prices and occupancy should be agreed directly for your dates and group size.
Shared kitchens and dining areas
One reason Curcubeu may suit families and groups is its provision of common kitchens. The property describes kitchens in both buildings, with refrigerators, freezers, cooking facilities, microwaves, coffee-making equipment and tableware. That can be particularly helpful when travelling with young children, staying for several days or coordinating a group that wants to prepare its own meals.
Curcubeu 1 has a larger dining area, described as accommodating approximately forty people for gathering or eating. Curcubeu 2 has a smaller common dining space for around twelve. These are shared facilities rather than private kitchens inside every bedroom. If you need exclusive kitchen use, ask the owners about a whole-building booking or specific arrangements before relying on it.
The guesthouse does not advertise its own restaurant or a prepared breakfast service. Plan to cook, buy groceries or eat in Bușteni. This is a practical distinction from a hotel with breakfast included. The property information identifies nearby shops and restaurants, but check their opening hours rather than expecting every business to be available throughout a winter evening.
Sauna, hot tub and leisure facilities
Curcubeu 1 offers several ways for guests to enjoy an evening without leaving the property. The common leisure facilities include billiards and table tennis, while outdoor cooking and gathering areas support a slower stay with friends or family. These features give the property a different character from a room-only hotel where most of the evening has to be spent elsewhere.
The owner lists a sauna and heated outdoor hot tub, known locally as a ciubăr, at Curcubeu 1. These are additional paid services rather than automatically included in the accommodation tariff. The hot tub is heated on request, with the owners asking for at least twenty-four hours’ notice. Confirm the current price, number of permitted users and any booking conditions directly before arriving.
Some guests will want a quiet evening in the room, while others are interested in using the shared leisure spaces. That difference matters when visiting as a couple or with young children. Ask about the hours and rules for common areas, especially if another group is staying in the building. A pleasant shared facility is not the same thing as a private spa reserved exclusively for one room.
Planning a family or group visit
The two buildings offer a useful range of capacity for groups. Curcubeu 1 can accommodate up to nineteen guests, while Curcubeu 2 adds up to twelve more, for the maximum combined capacity of thirty-one people stated by the property. The owners also describe the possibility of renting either building or both in full, subject to availability and agreement.
This can suit extended families, a group of friends or a smaller team visit, particularly when a common kitchen and gathering space are valuable. Curcubeu 1’s dining room is described as having approximately forty places, which is more than its own sleeping capacity. That difference must not be misread as permission to host forty overnight guests. Check the actual number of people, room combinations and event rules.
For a group reservation, ask about exclusive use of shared areas, payment terms, any deposit, noise restrictions and the responsibility for cleaning. The owners mention reunions and private events as possible uses, but local quiet hours still apply. A good group stay is easier when the organiser makes those arrangements before everyone arrives.
Kalinderu and the winter season
Curcubeu’s location near the Kalinderu ski area is one of the property’s clearest practical advantages. The owner gives a distance of about 150 metres to the ski or fun-park area, and describes guests commonly walking there. That can help skiers who want to return for lunch, collect forgotten clothing or avoid driving between the accommodation and the slope.
The property also mentions storage for skis, snowboards and sleds, including an area for drying ski boots. Those facilities are worth confirming for the exact building and your group, especially if travelling with several sets of equipment. The lower ski area and its operating lifts have their own season and weather rules, so the location is convenient even though snow and lift availability cannot be guaranteed by a booking.
If skiing is the main purpose, check the current Kalinderu piste and lift report shortly before departure. For a family with beginners, identify where lessons and equipment rental take place. If the slopes are closed, Bușteni still offers attractions and mountain views, but you may need to change the day’s programme.
Things to do beyond winter
Bușteni is an attractive base outside the ski season as well. Cantacuzino Castle offers architecture and views above the town, while the Bucegi foothills provide opportunities for marked walks in suitable conditions. The railway can also help visitors reach Sinaia or Azuga on trains that stop at those stations. A stay in the Kalinderu area allows a different rhythm from spending every day in a car.
For a lower forest walk, the route towards Urlătoarea Waterfall can be considered by visitors who are comfortable on natural terrain. It is not a paved path suitable for every stroller or mobility aid, and rain can make roots and stones slippery. More demanding mountain routes in the Bucegi require additional experience and preparation; do not improvise a hike solely because the mountains are visible from the guesthouse.
Ask the property about local guides, equipment rental or transfer arrangements if you need specific help. Its published information mentions connections with local activity providers, but those services may require separate booking. A clear day’s plan is better than assuming all activities are automatically included with accommodation.
Getting here, parking and house rules
Curcubeu 1 is listed at Strada Mihai Viteazu 8, with eight parking spaces according to the owner. Curcubeu 2 is at number 11 and has two parking places. The property’s accommodation information describes free guest parking, subject to the actual spaces available. If you arrive with several cars, ask whether every vehicle can be accommodated rather than expecting the total number of spaces to be available for one group.
The owner information states check-in from 14:00 and check-out by 11:00. Early arrival may be possible when rooms are ready, but should not be assumed. Payment options include cash, card, bank transfer and holiday vouchers. Confirm the specific reservation conditions and whether any advance payment is required before transferring money.
The property has rules that matter for planning: pets are not accepted, smoking is restricted to outside areas, and the booking holder must be an adult. Guests who need step-free access should ask precise questions about the entrance and bathroom, because the property does not list lifts or fully step-free rooms. A short distance to the ski slope does not in itself prove wheelchair accessibility.
Booking directly with the owners
The simplest way to check availability is to contact Pensiunea Curcubeu with the arrival and departure dates, the number of adults and children, and whether you prefer Curcubeu 1 or Curcubeu 2. Mention if your group needs double, triple or quadruple rooms. If you want the sauna or hot tub, ask about its price and availability at the same time, allowing at least a day for the heating arrangement.
Ask the owners for the total price, any required deposit, check-in arrangements and parking allocation. If you intend to rent a full building for a reunion or group, clarify what exclusive use includes and whether different rules apply. That written agreement is more useful than guessing from a photograph of the dining room or outdoor area.
