The classic marked route continues well beyond the canyon to Piatra Mare Hut. Munții Noștri lists 6 km, 3 hours 30 minutes, +940 m ascent and medium difficulty from Dâmbul Morii to the hut. Those figures are for the one-way mountain route, not for a quick canyon visit and return.
The name can be slightly confusing: the canyon has seven natural rock steps, but the current visitor infrastructure uses nine metal ladders. You do not need via-ferrata equipment for the normal managed crossing, but you do need good grip, free hands and confidence on exposed metal ladders.

How the route unfolds
From the barrier to the canyon — and beyond
From Dâmbul Morii, the yellow-stripe route follows the Șipoaia Valley through forest toward the canyon entrance. The first section is the gentler part of the day.
After the managed ladder section, the route continues up the dry upper valley and then climbs steadily through forest toward Piatra Mare Hut. If your only goal is the canyon, plan the marked bypass return rather than assuming you can descend through the ladders: the canyon is operated one-way, from downstream to upstream.

What climbing Seven Ladders Canyon is actually like
The gorge is roughly 160 metres long, with seven natural steps in the limestone. Published heights for those steps range from about 2.5 to 15 metres. The walls rise locally above 50 metres, creating a tight, cool corridor where spray and wet metal are normal rather than exceptional.

The attraction keeps its historic Seven Ladders name, while the operator describes the modern crossing as a system of nine metal ladders and walkways.
One-way through the canyon
The managed section is climbed from downstream to upstream. Do not plan to reverse the ladders for your return.
Not a via ferrata
The normal crossing does not use a via-ferrata cable-and-lanyard system. That makes secure footwear, free hands and sensible spacing even more important.
Opening hours & tickets
Use 17:30 as the published last canyon access — then verify on the day
The canyon operator’s visitor page states daily opening from 10:00 to 17:30, April through October. A separate page from the public forest administrator, RPLP Săcele, lists a broader daily site schedule of 10:00–18:00 but explicitly says that access to the canyon itself is allowed only until 17:30.
Published ticket information is less consistent across current public sources, so this guide does not hard-code a 2026 entrance price. Check the administrator’s tariff page immediately before travelling. RPLP’s published information also states that payment is cash only, so carrying Romanian lei is sensible even if you normally pay by card.

The ladders are engineered; the mountain is not controlled
The managed infrastructure reduces some risks but does not remove water, slippery surfaces, crowding, fatigue or changing mountain weather. Treat the approach and return as part of the same mountain outing.
For general mountain planning, use the national Salvamont recommendations and keep emergency number 112 available. If you need help, give your route, last known landmark and the condition of the injured person as clearly as possible.
- Check recent rainfall as well as the forecast for the hours you plan to hike.
- Climb the narrow ladders one person at a time and keep a sensible gap.

Getting there
How to reach Dâmbul Morii from Brașov and Prahova Valley
The trail starts at Dâmbul Morii on the DN1 corridor between Predeal and Brașov. Do not navigate simply to “Seven Ladders Canyon” expecting to drive to the ladders: the final approach is on foot.
By car
From DN1, turn toward the Dâmbul Morii access area and park only where permitted. Summer weekends can fill quickly. Leave the road, barriers and private access clear.
From Brașov by public transport
RATBV bus 17B runs between Brașov railway station and the Dâmbul Morii stop. This is the most useful scheduled public-transport option for foreign visitors based in Brașov. Check both directions before starting because weekend service is limited.
From Prahova Valley
If you are staying in Predeal, road transfer or taxi to Dâmbul Morii is the direct option. From Sinaia or Bușteni, you can also travel north by train toward Brașov and connect onward, but check the full return chain before committing to a long hike.
