Azuga Ski Area: Sorica & Cazacu Slopes Guide
The Azuga ski area is built around two main axes, Sorica and Cazacu, plus shorter links and easier upper sections. This guide explains the layout, the stable piste data and what must be checked live before you choose a base, lift or lesson point.
Sorica and Cazacu are not the same meeting point
The Azuga ski area is not one broad piste. Sorica and Cazacu descend on different lines, while shorter variants and learning areas have their own access logic. Decide where your group is actually meeting before arrival.
A good ski day starts with the exact base
“Meet at the ski slope” is too vague in Azuga. Choose the base, the lift and the level of each skier first.

Six named pistes and links in the Azuga public inventory
The municipality lists two main medium-difficulty pistes, two Cazacu links and two easier upper runs. This inventory describes the mountain; it does not tell you which sectors are open today.
Sorica
2,100 m long, medium difficulty, with a published vertical difference of about 561 m. The municipality also lists night lighting and artificial snowmaking.

Cazacu
Cazacu is a distinct main descent. Do not confuse the main piste with the base area or the much shorter Cazacu Variantă.
Cazacu Variantă
The municipality lists this separately from the main Cazacu piste. Treat it as its own section when checking what is open.
Cazacu Bretea
A connecting sector with a different role from the main piste. Field signs and the day’s closures always take priority.
Azuga Sud
Listed as easy in the municipal inventory. “Easy” still assumes the piste is open and conditions suit the skier.
La Stână
Another easier run in the public inventory. Check lift access and the return route before using it as a beginner plan.
Use the map to understand relationships, not live status
The image shows the Sorica and Cazacu axes, links and base areas. Commercial names, lift status and open sectors can change; on-mountain signs and the operator’s current information take priority.

Main reference for the gondola and for groups using the Sorica axis.
Cazacu base
A separate meeting reference for lessons, local repeats and Cazacu-side access.
Upper mountain
Wind and visibility can differ sharply from conditions in Azuga town.
The gondola does not automatically mean every sector is open
The gondola provides important access toward the upper mountain. Base-area lifts and learning facilities can have separate operation and ticket rules.

DN1 is only the first part of the journey
From central Azuga you still need to reach the Sorica or Cazacu area. Parking, walking in ski boots and meeting an instructor all need their own time allowance.
By car
Choose the exact base before entering the resort and keep a parking alternative. Weekend snow and vehicles carrying equipment can slow the final approach.

What to prepare for skiing in Azuga

What does the Azuga ski area include?
The public Azuga municipality inventory lists six named pistes and links: Sorica, Cazacu, Cazacu Variantă, Cazacu Bretea, Azuga Sud and La Stână. Opening status must be checked separately.
Are Sorica and Cazacu beginner slopes?
No. The municipality classifies the main Sorica and Cazacu pistes as medium difficulty. Beginners should confirm the lesson area and lift with their ski school.
Can I move between Sorica and Cazacu?
The ski map shows upper connections, but the usable connection depends on the sectors and lifts open that day. Never enter a closed link.
What is the current Azuga gondola timetable?
Azuga Resort currently publishes 09:00–16:00 Monday to Sunday. Wind, weather, maintenance and technical conditions can still affect actual operation, so check again on the day.
Are 2026–2027 Azuga ski-pass prices confirmed?
The operator currently sells gondola ticket products online, but the page checked on 11 August 2026 does not present a clearly labelled winter 2026–2027 ski-pass table. This guide therefore does not publish a new-season ski-pass price.
Can I reach the Azuga ski area by train?
Yes. Azuga has a railway station on the Bucharest–Brașov corridor, but the station is in town rather than at the Sorica or Cazacu base. Plan the last transfer, especially with children or ski equipment.
Where should a mixed-ability group meet?
Choose the exact base—Sorica or Cazacu—and agree on the lift, lesson point and regrouping time before arrival. ‘At the ski slope’ is not precise enough.

Use the current gondola operator page for access information, local on-site information for the base-area lifts and tickets, and weather and mountain-safety sources before departure.

Lengths and classifications come from the public Azuga municipality inventory. Gondola programme and commercial products come from the operator and can change. Weather and mountain safety must be checked again on the day.
