Brașov Airport to Prahova Valley: bus, train or car
For a trip from Brașov Airport to Prahova Valley, compare the bus and train connection with a direct car transfer. Start with the airport bus and the southbound rail timetable.

The easiest car-free route
The bus link to start with is RATBV route A1, which connects Brașov-Ghimbav Airport with Brașov’s railway station. From the station, take a train south towards Bucharest that calls at the resort where you plan to stay. The usual order on this corridor is Predeal, Azuga, Bușteni and Sinaia.
Do not confuse the two railway stations: there is no need to travel all the way to Bucharest to reach Prahova Valley from Brașov. You are approaching from the north.
Airport bus A1: the details that matter
RATBV publishes an A1 route between the airport and the railway station. The service pattern has changed as flight schedules developed; its September 2025 notice extended the timetable, but that announcement must not be treated as a departure guarantee for your travel date.
Use the RATBV timetable and look for the correct direction, Aeroportul Brașov → Gara Brașov. Allow time for passport controls, baggage collection and walking from the terminal to the stop.

Changing to the valley train
At Brașov station, search for a southbound train with the appropriate stop. Predeal is the first of the four main mountain resorts from this direction, followed by Azuga, Bușteni and Sinaia. Some trains skip smaller stops, so the service to Bucharest is not automatically the right one for every resort.
Use the national train planner to compare operators and the CFR booking website for CFR-operated trains. If your flight arrives at night, check whether the last useful onward service has already left.
Taxi, hire car and private driver
A pre-booked driver may be convenient for groups, children or a hotel away from the rail station. Agree the whole journey price and the airport meeting point before paying. A rental car is more useful if your itinerary includes multiple rural stops rather than a weekend in a central railway town.
In winter, check that the rental vehicle and your driving experience match the weather. The roads leading south over the Predeal area can be challenging in freezing conditions.

Which resort is easiest from this airport?
Predeal usually involves the shortest onward rail leg, but it is not the best base for every itinerary. For castles and Sinaia’s royal quarter, continue to Sinaia. For Cantacuzino Castle and the Bucegi foothills, Bușteni is more appropriate. For the Sorica slopes, choose Azuga.
Compare the four towns in our accommodation and resort guide before choosing by airport distance alone. Your hotel location matters as much as the station.
Connecting from the terminal without rushing
The first part of this trip happens before the mountain scenery begins. After collecting luggage at Brașov–Ghimbav Airport, you need to find the public-transport stop and board the A1 service in the direction of Brașov’s railway station. The operator’s September 2025 timetable is a useful reference, but do not rely on those exact hours for a journey later in 2026 without checking the current version. The bus is affected by road traffic and there is no guaranteed connection to every train.
Allow time for the real airport process. Passengers with checked bags, children or unfamiliar mobile roaming may leave the terminal later than planned. A train scheduled only minutes after the bus’s theoretical arrival is a poor choice, because walking through the station and locating a platform also takes time. Save both your flight and rail information offline and identify a second useful onward train before leaving home.
If the airport bus is no longer running when you arrive, consider a licensed transfer into Brașov or directly to your accommodation. A night in Brașov may also be sensible after a particularly late flight. You are not required to solve the whole mountain holiday on the night you land.
Buying the correct train to the right town
At Brașov station, search the southbound services towards București Nord. The main resort sequence is Predeal, Azuga, Bușteni and Sinaia. This order makes orientation easier, but it does not mean every train calls at every stop. Some faster services can pass smaller stations, so check the itinerary in full. For Predeal, a short connection from Brașov can be enough; for Sinaia, allow more time on board.
Several Romanian operators sell passenger train tickets, and booking a train through the wrong company’s website can lead to an invalid ticket. Read the operator shown on the national timetable and complete the purchase through that operator or an authorised integrated platform. Keep your ticket and the identification required by its terms accessible during the journey. A screenshot is useful as a personal backup only if the operator accepts that ticket format.
Visitors with bicycles, skis or large luggage should check transport conditions before purchase. A normal train connection is not a promise that all sports equipment can be boarded without restriction. Your final hotel may also be uphill from the station, making a taxi or guesthouse pickup useful even when the long-distance journey is by train.
Driving over Predeal in uncertain weather
A direct road transfer from Brașov Airport uses the mountain road corridor towards Predeal, then continues south through Azuga, Bușteni and Sinaia. The route seems compact on a map, but it is an ordinary road with bends, gradients, changing speed limits and busy holiday traffic. Driving time can vary substantially, especially on weekends, after snowfall or when roadworks alter the flow.
If you rent a car, ask the supplier about winter tyres, insurance, the final access road to your accommodation and restrictions that might matter during your trip. A chalet reached by a narrow steep lane presents a different problem from a hotel on the main street of Predeal. Check the last approach with your host and confirm where the vehicle can park. Do not assume an inexpensive room includes parking.
A driver hired for the airport transfer should know your complete address, not only the resort name. Ask whether the quoted price covers airport waiting, flight delays, luggage and child seats. An arrangement confirmed in writing is preferable to negotiating the entire trip after arriving tired in an unfamiliar country.
A good base is more important than the shortest ride
The closest resort to Brașov is not automatically the best place to sleep. Predeal suits forest walks and local winter activities, while Azuga is useful for visitors focused on Sorica and the Baiului side. Bușteni offers access to Cantacuzino Castle and the Bucegi foothills. Sinaia is the natural base for the royal estate and a wide range of cultural stops. Your priority should determine where you get off the train.
For a car-free holiday, examine the actual pedestrian route from the station to your accommodation. Some properties are above town on steep streets, and a short straight-line distance can disguise a demanding walk with luggage. Check whether evening restaurants, groceries or a taxi pickup are available at the time you expect to arrive.
If your only planned activity is an indoor visit to Peleș Castle, account for the museum’s official closure from 2 November through 1 December 2026. Booking Sinaia solely for an interior tour during those dates would be a mistake. The town still has other attractions, but the reason for choosing it should be honest and timely.
Airport transfers with children and extra luggage
Young children change the calculation. A bus-and-train journey can be comfortable when the connections allow time, but a rushed interchange through a busy station may be exhausting with a stroller and suitcases. Check whether the bus has suitable space for your equipment and whether the rail operator can accommodate your luggage. If your family needs a child seat in a private vehicle, reserve it before arrival rather than assuming the driver will carry one.
For a family group, compare the complete cost of public tickets and the final local taxi against a direct private transfer. The cheapest option per person is not necessarily the easiest door to door. Consider also whether you will need a vehicle after checking in. A central hotel beside a station may allow several pleasant days without a rental car.
Bring the hotel address, a contact number and basic Romanian place names offline. If mobile data fails after landing, you should still be able to show a taxi driver the destination or identify the correct train station. Small practical preparations matter more than a complicated minute-by-minute itinerary.
Plan the first full day after your arrival
Keep arrival evening simple. After an international flight and two transport legs, there is little advantage in chasing a late mountain cable-car ride. Check in, find somewhere to eat and confirm the weather and operator notices for the following morning. High-altitude transport may stop in wind even when the town below feels calm, and winter trails are not a sensible last-minute activity.
If you stay in Sinaia, choose one main attraction for the following day and build the route around its opening arrangements. In Bușteni, Cantacuzino Castle is a worthwhile cultural option and the forest trails require independent weather checks. In Azuga, verify the gondola and slopes directly with the operator. Predeal offers town and forest options without needing to travel south immediately.
For a multi-day stay, a single base is often less stressful than changing hotels each night. The railway makes neighbouring towns reachable for some day trips, provided the chosen train stops and the return schedule is practical. Our three-day plan offers one way to balance those decisions.
